eme isaza is an artist, writer and researcher based in Medellín. Sound is the material and listening the method: across composition, installation, writing and software, the work uses listening to examine how technology shapes culture, from the scale of the particle to that of the planet, and reads critically the systems that now listen back.

eme co-founded Sonic Field in 2013 and directs it today as a platform for writing and research on sound and listening. Its research unit, Sonic Field Labs, builds open tools for machine listening, and its program LISTENING.md studies how people and computational agents listen together. From the mountains east of Medellín, aleph::ch’ixi, which eme founded and directs, carries the same questions into situated and experimental computation. Transdisciplinary study at The New Centre for Research & Practice informs all of it.

eme has composed and released music since 2008, on labels such as LINE, Dragon’s Eye Recordings, 901 Editions and Eilean Rec., and writes songs as eme Zzz. At Momoto Studio eme produces and masters records for independent labels and mixes multichannel installations. Earlier, eme founded Designing Sound and the Auditum listening festival, co-founded Éter Lab with Alejo Henao, and spent thirteen years writing about audio and music technology for Hispasonic.
